#DemoDay

I decided to overcome the whole “Monday blues” thing and start my week off with a fun blog post!  Now that I have shared our farmhouse purchase with you all, it’s time to start sharing the renovation process!  From the minute we got the keys it was GO TIME.  Reid only had 3 days before he left to demo and spray the entire inside of the house so we had no time to mess around!  We ripped out everything from the floors, to the kitchen, to the closets.  There are some things that are easier to renovate while nothing else is in the house so we had to start strong.  We had a real solid crew of family helpers to get the job done and are beyond thankful!  Here are some photos of the demo process.  I will share before and after photos of each area in separate blog posts.  Thanks for following our “Smith Family Farm” journey, we love you all!

These large bay windows overlooking the farms and water were the main selling point for us.  The house also has an amazing wood beam that goes through the middle of the house.  With seeing the beam and the windows, we knew we could make this house exactly what we want.  To us, if the house has the land, views and character we are looking for, everything else is changeable!

This is probably one of the worst pictures we have taken but it was such a great morning I couldn’t not capture it. We woke up at 4 am to start the demo of our brand new farmhouse and we could not have been more excited for the adventure ahead of us (bags under the eyes and all)!

The above pictures are the main kitchen/dining/living area down to the studs!  We completely started from scratch here, as well as the laundry room shown above.  We had a blank slate to redo the kitchen exactly how we wanted it. I had the most fun designing this area of the house!!! (Blog post on this coming soon).

Down our hallway are all the bedrooms.  I loved the long hallway when we initially toured the home!  I just wanted to keep it clean and simple.

Reid spraying the entire inside of the home.  This wall is in our main living area, just off the ledge from the kitchen/dining area.  We have yet to renovate the fireplace wall, but just having fresh paint and floors made the world of a difference until we are able to do so!  The color we chose for the entire inside of the home is Benjamin Moore “Simply White.”

With this house, we wanted a fresh clean look.  I told Reid from the start, the look I was going for is “modern farmhouse.”  I love the character a farmhouse has to offer, but love clean sleek lines of modern design.  I think together they make a really cozy and welcoming home!  Here Reid is spraying all our new baseboards, we went with 6″ modern baseboards to complete the look.  We used the same paint color as the walls, Benjamin Moore, Simply White.  (Semi-gloss finish for the baseboards)

This is our master bedroom pre-paint!  The walls were lavender and definitely not our cup of tea.  Painting them white like the rest of the house tied in the clean look we were hoping for!  Our master is small but we’ve been able to make it super functional and cozy.

The master bath/vanity/closet area pictured above!  We ripped out the old vanity and did a custom vanity through the same company that did our kitchen.  It worked out much better this way since the nook was such a unique size!

The boys bedroom!  You can see the closet ripped out above.  I will do a post on all the custom closets we designed with Storables.  They are one of my favorite parts of the house we did.

Our post #demoday celebration!  We are so thankful for all our amazing family who came to support us! I am glad I was finally able to share some “before” photos with you.  I will slowly keep working on posts on different areas of the house.  But for now, you guys stay classy and have a fantastic week!

Sincerely,

The Smiths
